Book Blogger Hop (16)

Book Blogger Hop is a meme hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer every Friday-Thursday. It's a great opportunity to network and visit other blogs and meet new bloggers.

This weeks question is:
"Why would you stop reading a book? Too long, wrong genre, bad language, not what you expected, or something totally different?"

I answered:
I try really, really, really hard to never just stop reading a book because what if it gets good right before I decide to stop? I feel like every book I start deserves to be finished. But there have been a few cases where I just could not continue for multiple reasons:
  • The writing was just plain bad
  • I could not bring myself to like the characters
  • There was a weak/not very interesting plot
  • Reminded me too much of another novel
What about you? Leave your answer to this weeks question in the comments below.

  1. I have a hard time putting down a book as well but there are sometimes you just have to! My reasoning is generally pretty similar to yours on that.

  2. Stopping a book is difficult, but I can't keep reading when I have so many good books to get to if the specific one I am reading does not work.

ENJOY your reading weekend. I like your answers to the question.

    Nice blog.

  3. Hopping through. I feel like I'm the opposite. I don't hesitate to stop books if I don't like them or I'm not in the mood. I feel like there are too many books and too little time.

  4. I sometimes stop reading a book if I feel like switching genres at the moment- like switching from a cozy to women's fiction, or from an historical novel to a thriller. Depends on my mood. Books I am not interested in at all, I just drop and never go back to. Most of the time, anyway.

  5. I'm definitely with you on the character thing. That's one of the most important things to me on whether I can get into a book. Old follower. :-)

  7. I stop reading a book when the characters irritate me and the story is too cliche. I take a break in the meantime on the book and try another one.

  8. I just came over to read your blog and saw this and I wanted to add: I am absolutely ruthless about this -- if a book doesn't grab me, and I'm forcing myself to turn the pages, I just stop. This is only recent though -- I used to force myself to finish books because I just couldn't bear not finishing. But I finally told myslef there are tons of better books out there I could be reading.

    1. Yeah honestly so many people have been saying that exact same thing and I'm starting to agree. I have so many books I want to read why waste time forcing myself to finish bad ones....
